The impact of trauma can touch every part of our lives and can inform how we respond to relationships and to situations. But what is trauma? And what are the lasting effects of childhood trauma?
Join Nancy Simard, Director of School Counseling at Noble High School and Susan Daigneault, current College and Career Counselor with Noble Adult and Community Education and former Director of School Counseling at Dover High School, for this three-part community conversation. Together, we will explore the impact of trauma on the brain, the importance of connection, and the transformative power of relationships. Nancy and Susan will help to inform conversations on attunement and neuroplasticity. Join us as we seek to discover how to build community resilience and address the impacts of trauma across the lifespan.
This workshop will expose and explain the subtle nature of microaggressions, which are defined as "daily verbal, behavioral, and environmental communications, whether intentional or unintentional, that transmit hostile, derogatory, or negative messages to a target person because they belong to a stigmatized group."
This workshop will explore the history of racial prejudice in Maine, from the persecution of residents of Malaga Island to the KKK to the history of US relations with the Tribes that have lived in this area for thousands of years. This real history is a necessary component of anti-racism education for Mainers.
